The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition hosted a 1st pop-up event on Saturday, November 28th (highlighting Small Business Saturday) along Steinway Street, 30th Avenue and Broadway.

The pop-up event rang in the holiday shopping season by showcasing Astoria’s business districts and their small businesses, and featured an array of contactless and socially distant performances throughout the afternoon.  Pop-ups included FunikiJam World Music’s “Holiday Beat” show, Christmas Matters Holiday Carolers in Dickens attire, a special appearance by Santa as he drove through the business districts in his red convertible, masked and mega phone in hand, to greet Astoria residents and visitors, as well as the NYC Brass Entourage bringing smiles to passersby with the sounds of the season.  The day was dedicated to supporting local small businesses that give Astoria its distinctive character and provide invaluable contributions to our community.  Local residents and area visitors alike thoroughly enjoyed the pop-up performances and were not at all bashful in showing their appreciation as they applauded and cheered while maintaining their social distance.

This amazing event was sponsored, in part, by NYC Council Member Costa Constantinides through the Neighborhood Development Grant Initiative.

We also wish to thank the New York City Department of Small Business Services.
