The 2nd annual Celebrate Astoria: International Cultural Festival shows off Astoria’s Diversity

On May 21st Astoria and New York City residents attended a colorful spectacle hosted by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition, featuring groups from around the world who danced and sung energetically, shining their way through a dusky Saturday afternoon.

The crowd arrived at Astoria Park’s Great Lawn to enjoy the show, which featured Ballet Los Pampas from Argentina, KUD Halaturko from Bosnia, Croatian Franciscan Fathers Youth Club, Ayazamana Cultural Center from Ecuador, Cretan Association from Greece, NYC Bhangra from India, McManus School of Irish Dance, The Braata Folk Singers from the Caribbean/Jamaica, and the Korean Traditional Music and Dance Center.

The varied, colorful performances pepped up the enthusiastic crowd and gave them an event to remember fondly. From colorful dress to traditional dances to audience participation, the skills on display made sure everyone went home happy.

The festival was supported by NYC Council Member Costa Constantinides, and in part by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
